Handling Holiday Stress Gracefully - Order not Chaos

Your Vital, Valuable Resource for Handling Holiday Stress Gracefully

Handling holiday stress gracefully isn’t always easy, but the keys to doing so are within you.  Your Inner Wisdom is your vital, valuable resource for doing just that.  Handling holiday stress gracefully is up to you….

Your body, the physical means for fulfilling your Soul’s intentions, is continually guiding you to be happy, healthy, and fulfilled. This guidance becomes especially potent when you navigate the holidays, a time of year for going within and connecting with possibilities for “new”.  This time of deep meaning also often results in high expectations.

Handling Holiday Stress Gracefully – You Manifested It

You naturally manifest experiences that show you what you’re giving priority, and value, as well as what you’d REALLY like to prioritize.  If your core values (those in your heart vs. those things you’ve been conditioned to value), enliven your choices, what will your life be like?  Would you be more likely to find yourself  handling holiday stress gracefully then?

The story below, adapted from my original article “Follow Your Heart, Your Purpose: Your Vital, Valuable Resource” (Luminous Wisdom: Sophia, December 2017) highlights one of the more poignant experiences of my 2017.  I use it to exemplify our most vital, valuable resource, which can help us in handling holiday stress gracefully.

Follow Your Heart, Your Purpose: Your Vital, Valuable Resource

What an amazing experience!  As I spoke to the tiny, incessantly crying kitten a couple yards in front of me, it began to make its wobbly way to me.  We were strangers.  It had appeared out of nowhere, with no mother in sight.   Though unable to see, it made its way steadfastly up onto my feet.  It quieted gratefully as I picked it up and held it close.  It seemed to know instinctively I could help.  Most likely its mom instinctively abandoned this 2-3-week-old because of health issues.  It needed way more attention than a human alone could give at this life stage.  I tried.  It strived to survive.  Sadly, it passed during the night a couple days later.

I watched in awe as it searched with every ounce of its being for its mom, for comfort, for nourishment.  It was a heartbreaking reminder of the amazing, vital gut sense within us to find what’s needed to survive, and be safe.  We actually have multiple wisdom centers that help us not only survive, but also live our TRUTH, our innate design potential to the fullest.  These centers are a valuable resource for us to partner with, vital to our health and well being.

I’m amazed how unaware of our innate wisdom humans can become, despite our evolution, intelligence, emotional depth, etc.  But why?  It isn’t gone, is it? Nope.  But our awareness of those wisdom centers typically is compromised because we avoid or doubt them, are trained not to listen to them, and/or are separated from them because of trauma.  When they’re all open, fully functioning together, and we’re tuned in to them, we’re able to partner with them beneficially.  We’re able to reconnect with what’s TRUE and right for us through our intuition, guiding us to heal and dissolve our blocks to living our full potential.  We find renewed confidence, clarity, peace, and well being, following our Soul’s path to Purpose.

Have you noticed how, at this very sacred time of year, you’re naturally inclined to examine your life, and consider changes?  You’re drawn to go within and examine your priorities, values, dreams and intentions.  Your examination, commitment, and resolve may even be tested with holiday stressors. You may feel torn between your “shoulds/musts” and what’s truly in your heart as you contemplate the coming year.

So, how do you distinguish your TRUTH from someone else’s ideas and find what’s best for YOU? Connect to the valuable, vital resource of your inner wisdom.  Attend to your body, opening and aligning its wisdom centers.  Listen to the beating of your heart and the voice of clarity in the quiet, pregnant stillness of potential and possibility in the Solstice.  Partner with your innate guidance on your Soul’s path for health, wellbeing, joy, peace, and Purpose.  It’s time for new Divine birth from your Highest Self, shining your inner light brightly as you live more intentionally On-Purpose.

What’s your Inner Wisdom showing you today?  Meow.

Handling Holiday Stress Gracefully, Practically

Handling Holiday Stress GracefullyYou know there are circumstances that you can’t readily change.  All you can change is your response, which includes managing your thoughts and choices.

Your body cannot lie.  It responds to your thoughts in given ways (the basis for lie detector tests).  It will always show you where your thoughts are incongruent with your TRUTH.

Your expectations and “shoulds” are typically a proximal cause of holiday stress.  What do you expect of yourself?  Of others?  What do you feel you “should” do?  How are these expectations and beliefs affecting your time management?  Your finances?  Your choices?  Are you living congruently with your TRUTH?  Your core values?

How’s your body feeling?  What’s it showing you?  What can you change to be more congruent with your TRUTH, your core values, your heart’s desires, feeling healthy and vital?

Resources for Handling Holiday Stress

There are many resources available for managing stress in the moment.  And, those are valuable short term, to feel better,  when doing the deep dive is neither possible, nor practical.

However, if you never do the deep dive, you will never live better, BE BETTER than you are now.  Your non-conscious mind will continue to affect your Wisdom Centers whether you attend to them or not.

Do breathe deeply, play some relaxing music, light a candle, get a massage, eat some chocolate and soak in a warm bubble bath.   And, remember you still haven’t actually resolved your stress. You just pushed it further into the background.

But, for the New Year, commit to doing the deep dive.  Open and realign your wisdom centers, and LISTEN to them to live and BE your best YOU. Request a Discovery Session today and discover how Transformational Coaching and Craniosacral Therapy can help you do that.

Spiritual Symbolism in the Holiday Stories

There Is Rich Spiritual Symbolism in the Holiday Stories

Spiritual Symbolism in the Holiday StoriesThere is rich spiritual symbolism in the holiday stories.

Taking your cue from the spiritual symbolism in the holiday stories, and aligning with the seasonal cycles of nature, can enrich your own journey through spiritual growth to self-actualization. Each of the holiday stories in their own way, and the cycling of the seasons, symbolize the same process: your spiritual growth through illumination of your soul and its growth in consciousness.

The holy days and the winter solstice embody significant stages in our personal and spiritual growth. This is the season of rest, i.e. hibernation, in preparation for renewed life to begin its next phase in Spring.

You likely feel instinctively inclined to connect with your Soul intentions for the coming year at this time.

Many people manifest this inclination by making “resolutions”.

Yet, your Soul intentions are deeper and more meaningful than traditional resolutions.  Your Soul intentions are related to your Purpose, which is connected to your soul’s growth, and is what those inclinations to make resolutions are REALLY about.

Looking deeper at the spiritual symbolism in the holiday stories….

To manifest, i.e. birth,  your Soul intentions, there must parents.  The father figure is the mind, the spirit, the masculine principle.  The mother is the heart, the soul, the feminine receptive principle.

In part, the holiday stories symbolize preparing and purifying yourself by transcending your Human Ego, harmonizing your mind and your heart. In other words, opening to your pure heart and mind working together to manifest your Highest intentions.  Opening in this way, you are birthing the Light within you into your earthly self and existence.

You are birthing your Soul intentions – YOUR Purpose.

Spiritual symbolism in the holiday stories - your inner lightWhen the heart and soul are pure, then the “Child” is born not of the mind, but of the Universal Soul, or the Holy Spirit.  It occurs in the form of Divine Love, entering the human heart and soul. (You know that feeling, don’t you?  The one where you feel deeply inspired, awed, connected, and at peace)?

As Divine Love fills your heart, your Inner Light shines brighter, and your connection to your Purpose is stronger.  You are manifesting your Soul intentions.

As you enter this time of rest and preparation for renewal, reflect upon what you have manifested thus far, and the infinite possibilities awaiting manifestation.

The shortening of days represents the veil of forgetfulness about why you came here and what your purpose is.  As the daylight again increases, your Soul is released into the light, making its way back to Source.

Thus, you have a rich opportunity now to re-connect with your purpose for this lifetime, and set your intentions for the coming year.

Which seeds will you “resolve” to plant?

As you connect with your Source, and open to your Soul’s intentions for this lifetime, do so without reservation or judgement.

Recall the importance of your mind and intellect supporting and protecting that Soul connection through your heart as needed, unconditionally.  Invite your human mind to accept that there is more to your Being than it alone can create, or even understand.

It is a rich time for feeling and experiencing “awe”, which is the most relaxing, stress reducing human emotion. “Awe” is associated also with experiencing unconditional love in the deepest, most profound sense.

Letting your Light shine – more spiritual symbolism of the holiday stories.

Spiritual symbolism in the holiday storiesWhen you are too busy eating, drinking, amusing yourself in the human materialistic sense, there is “no room at the inn” for the one who has received the Divine within.  In other words, your connection to Source isn’t as open, strong, and clear.  Your higher self is not as “welcome”.

When shifting to a “poverty of material conditions” (a.k.a. “the manger”), the connection is made clear, and this inner divine Light is projected from you.  Others can see it from afar, and will be drawn in.

Your Inner Light is there to support, nourish, comfort, heal, and revitalize you on your journey.  It is always within you, and available to you lighting your way.

How will you let your inner light shine more brightly?  What will you bring forth in the new year to bring your Purpose to Life?

I invite you to spend this holy time of solstice reflecting upon your own journey, and opening your pure heart to the possibilities within.

What infinite potential lies within your pure heart, your Soul’s intentions to be birthed in this lifetime?  How can your mind best support this process without your Ego’s judgement interfering?  How will your masculine and feminine aspects harmonize to birth your Purpose?

I find this a very deep, interesting, and complex topic to ponder.  I do not pretend to be an expert in it at all.  What I do profess to be an expert it, is doing my personal best to live my own version of that.  No one else can do it for me.

You are an expert in living your own journey.

Only you could have gotten to exactly where you are, the way you did.  The path you are following is You-nique yours to follow.

You are exactly where you are meant to be, how you are meant to be at all times.

You meant to experience not only the joy, but also the feelings of fear, doubt, and judgement around yourself and your journey.

Spiritual symbolism in the holiday stories - guiding you(I bet you even objected in your own way, if only a little, to the idea of being “an expert in your own journey”, didn’t you?).

Those difficult feelings are your friends and guides.  They are showing you the opportunities for your next steps in your personal growth: to dissolve those fears, doubts, judgements and further purify yourself.  They are showing you where you are blocked from more fully BEING YOU.

The purification process opens you to receive even more clearly from Source, and let your inner light shine even brighter.  In terms of the spiritual symbolism of the holiday stories, it is purifying your heart so that you can experience spiritual birth, and hence renewal.   In so doing, you move closer to living in alignment with your Soul intentions.  Intentionally.

Thank you for BEING You.  In BEING YOU, you fulfill your Purpose, filling your space in the WHOLE.

In the spirit of the spiritual symbolism in the holiday stories, I invite you to devote some quiet, quality time to going within. Connect with stillness, and allow yourself to listen to your own Inner Wisdom. It is guiding you to your next steps with energy, joy, and peace.

During this sacred open time, let your Inner Wisdom help you determine your Soul intentions for 2017, and resolve to align with those to the best of your ability.

The world needs you now more than ever to bring your Purpose to Life, and Life to your Purpose.

Simple Self-Care During The Holidays

Simple Holiday Self-Care for Less Stress and More Energy

Simple self-care during the holidays can reduce stress and keep you energized. Is your own self-care even on your holiday list?

If you are the type to put everything and every one else first, you probably do so even more at holiday time, and your answer to that question is likely “NO”.   Simple self-care during the holidays can help reduce stress, and energize you.  Then, you may even find you get more done in less time because you are more effective and efficient.

Putting yourself on your list can be simple and effortless.

You don’t need to buy anything, schedule hours into your day, nor go anywhere.

There are some tips for simple self-care during the holidays you can incorporate effortlessly into your routine that will help minimize the effects of stress.

Simply minimizing the effects of stress can help short term.

Minimizing the effects of stress does not have the lasting effect that getting to the roots of your stress does.  But, it can help short term until you take the needed time to resolve your issues at the roots for long-term, lasting results.

First, it is important to recognize some of the signs that you may be stressed.

Though it may be easy to blame the weather, and being around others, you can’t ignore that these “symptoms” can be directly related to the stress of this very special time of year.  You may be experiencing the fallout of holiday stress if you are experiencing any of the following:

  • Feeling run down, fatigued, irritable, overwhelmed
  • Getting sick
  • Headaches
  • Neck, shoulder, hip, low back pain/tension

During the holidays, you are likely:

  • doing more
  • spending more
  • eating more (and more poorly)
  • sleeping less
  • socializing more

Your innate drive to serve and care for others is likely amped up, fueling your desire to make the holidays perfect and wonderful. For others.

Yet, feeding your deep desire to make the holiday wonderful for others may not be enough to nourish all of your own needs for self-care during the holidays.   You may feel good about what you have done on one hand, yet drained and irritable on the other.

Sound familiar?

If you identify with this, or simply desire to add in some effortless self-care this holiday season, here are 10 tips for simple self-care during the holidays:

Simple Self-Care During the Holidays

  1. Breathe deeply. Deep breathing can trigger a natural relaxation state.
  2. Ground and center yourself.  Take a moment to really feel present, in the moment, connected to Source, and to Earth.
  3. Smile.  This actually tricks your nervous system into a state of feeling happy.  Did you just smile?
  4. Turn on the music. Sing or whistle an inspiring or upbeat tune. Dance as if no one were watching.
  5. Savor your morning routine.  Start your day off positively. Really savor your morning routine – a cup of tea, meditation, prayer time, your shower, applying a favorite moisturizer, the sunrise, the promise of a new day.  Really take it in. Have fun.
  6. BE in the moment.  Find something you can appreciate with your senses, such as a new pleasant scent, something beautiful in nature, a new sight, a new flavor, the coziness of your sweater, the sounds, the silence, etc.
  7. Be gentle with yourself and realistic with your expectations. Don’t beat yourself up for your choices and outcomes.  It is great to notice your feelings around your perceived shortcomings.  Holidays aren’t the time to change dramatically (though you can choose to feel gratitude for the insight into your own ways).  HINT: Set your intention to dig deep here at a better time for handling it – say in the New Year? Request a complimentary consultation for a Discovery Session with me to explore how life coaching may help with expectations, intentions, and goal-setting in the New Year.
  8. Know and honor your values, and set your priorities according to them.   What is REALLY important?  If you honor your values, you will feel more fulfilled, confident, and less stressed.
  9. Eat and drink as healthy as possible, focusing on what you DID eat “right”.  Have an extra glass of water to maintain your hydration.  Try smaller portions, and eat mindfully.   If you give yourself a minute to really savor that one cookie, or piece of candy, you may not really want another…..
  10. Choose the feeling you DO want to experience when all is said and done, and create it for yourself.  How? First, identify the feeling.  Perhaps it’s gratitude, peace, joy, or even can’t be put into words.  Then, using your imagination, assuming anything is possible, imagine actually having that feeling, being in the situation that would create it.

These tips for simple self-care during the holidays can help mitigate the effects of stress short-term, but you need to get to the roots for lasting results.

Ultimately, your beliefs about your situation, expectations, choices, options, experiences, etc., are what create stress, and must be dealt with realistically to resolve stress at the roots.  Taking the plunge into exploring what makes you tick takes time, and commitment, but has its long term rewards in satisfaction, health, joy, and peace.

Put yourself on your list…..

Consider being as generous with yourself as you are others.  Your health matters.  You can’t give as much, as well, to others from a an empty box….
